Teacher Training

Practicing Pilates will bring you to a new level of health. Becoming a Pilates teacher will position you to help others on their journey, whether it’s for pain management or aesthetics.

Mat is the foundation of Pilates. Everything else builds upon it. During this training, you will learn teaching tools that embody the philosophy of the Pilates method. We go beyond memorizing exercises to how to assess what you’re seeing, with focus on real bodies, not perfect ones. The goal of this program is to help you observe movement in a way that will empower you to teach with confidence.

You will learn to:

  • Determine what the likely problem is when someone can’t seem to do an exercise.

  • Address those underlying issues.

  • Identify differences between functional and dysfunctional cues.

  • Honor the body’s natural movement patterns.

  • Learn to work beyond the “checklist” of exercises to provide effective progressions that make sense to both body and mind.

  • Offer clients the possibility of real, effective pain relief that comes with practice.

This training requires continued and dedicated participation. Don’t come expecting to sit and watch, as you will be required to know how to do the exercises before learning how to teach them.  The techniques you will learn in this program can be classified as “pre-Pilates”, which are just movement preps designed to integrate the nervous system, release holding patterns, and gently stretch areas of tightness, and which enhance and inform the classical practice. Focusing primarily on movement and breath, this training is delivered over ten modules with a guide offering only the essentials. A bonus chapter-by-chapter study aid takes you through Return to Life by Joseph Pilates, supporting your understanding of the method at its source.
